Sports Medicine

Dr. Drake has had a long-standing interest in sports and sports medicine. He has served as team physician for football, basketball, baseball, and soccer teams for White County High School and White County Middle School, for many years. He remains readily available to meet the needs of White County athletes of all ages.

Several years ago, Dr. Drake was instrumental in developing a sports medicine program for White County schools, implementing the services of several local physicians, the hospital, physician assistants and trainers. Part of that program included providing pre-participation physical exams for White County athletes at reduced costs. These required physicals are still provided at our office in May of each year at a greatly reduced price to lessen the financial burden to families of our athletes. A portion of the charged amount is returned to the athlete’s team as a donation to help provide equipment and other services for them. The May physicals are acceptable to the TSSAA* (Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association) for the following school year for all sports. We recommend all students in the 6th –12th grades come and get their physicals at this time if possible. For those athletes who cannot make the May clinic, we are happy to schedule them into our regular office hours at a slightly higher cost.

Dr. Drake provides physicals for elementary age athletes and cheerleaders in September proceeding the basketball season. These physicals are done at each of the six White County Elementary schools so that the students’ families are not inconvenienced. As with the older athletes, a portion of the fee is donated back to the school teams to help provide for their expenses.

Dr. Drake provides required physicals for all White County Special Olympic athletes at no cost.
These physicals are scheduled through the athletic school directors or sponsors.

*The TSSAA requires athletes receive pre-participation sport physicals to be done by a MD, DO, NP, or PA. An EMT or trainer cannot perform these physicals.
